Glenwood offers the services of an expert, experienced team for cardiac surgery.
When open heart surgery is required, Glenwood’s specialized heart team is ready, with a board certified cardiovascular surgeon and a highly experienced surgery staff, allowing patients and their families to remain in familiar surroundings, close to home before, during and after surgery. A designated heart suite in Glenwood’s Surgery Department ensures that the highest quality care is maintained.
Following open heart surgery, patients are closely monitored in Glenwood’s Cardiovascular Critical Care Unit. Once it is advisable, patients are transferred to the hospital’s Cardiovascular Telemetry Unit for the completion of their hospital stay.
Cardiovascular surgical treatments include:
- Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG), including the off-pump procedure
- Minimally invasive CABG, including endoscopic vein harvesting
- Valve repair, valve replacement
Vascular Surgery
Vascular surgery is dedicated to the care of patients with diseases of the vascular systems (blood vessels), particularly those problems that require surgical treatment. The body's intricate network of arteries, veins, and even thinner blood vessels, can suffer from a wide range of medical disorders. Glenwood Heart and Vascular Institute physicians bring their joint expertise to the diagnosis and treatment of every kind of vascular condition.
Vascular surgical treatments include:
- Carotid artery surgery for the prevention of stroke
- Treatment of aortic aneurysms
- Bypass surgery to save limbs
Thoracic Surgery
Glenwood's Heart and Vascular thoracic surgery specializes in the treatment of diseases of the chest, including disorders of the esophagus, lungs, tuberculosis, chest wall deformities, cancer, myasthenia gravis, chest wall and mediastinum. Our program has special interest and expertise in tumors of the lung and esophagus.
Building and expanding upon this legacy of leadership, thoracic surgery at the Institute has experienced remarkable growth over the past three years. Our patients benefit from an integrated approach to the management of thoracic problems. The coordinated efforts of our dedicated team of an experienced surgeon, pulmonologists, cardiothoracic anesthesiologists, intensivists, and surgical nurses, allow a smooth transition for our patients through our state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities to our surgical suite, intensive care, and step-down units.
