AngioScreen, Saving Lives on the Go
10-Minute Mobile Preventative Screenings Promote Vascular Health

Every 30 seconds an American has a heart attack….every 45 seconds, an American has a stroke…and every hour; 100 Americans die from vascular disease – the leading cause of death worldwide.

To address these staggering statistics, Glenwood Regional Medical Center’s Heart and Vascular Institute is pleased to offer a cutting-edge wellness program, AngioScreen, which mobilizes revolutionary vascular screening technology and services for communities throughout the region.  With the new AngioScreen coach, mobile screenings can be brought to people within the community and region, providing immediate information about vascular health- including circulation, risk of heart disease, stroke and abdominal aorta aneurysm.

Glenwood is the exclusive provider of this new AngioScreen program in our region.  The non-invasive preventative screenings can be completed in less than 10 minutes and include the following:

Stroke Screening: An ultrasound of the left and right carotid arteries for blockage leading to stroke.  The Peak Systolic Velocity (PSV) can determine the percentage of a carotid artery blockage.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm: An abdominal aorta aneurysm (AAA) scan since most aortic aneurysms have no symptoms until it is too late.

Peripheral Arterial Disease: Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) study to determine blockage in the legs.

Atrial Fibrillation: A simple EKG, which tests for atrial fibrillation.

Height, Weight and BMI
AngioScreen measurements provide an assessment of risk that can be enhanced by consultation with your personal physician who may recommend other measure of vascular risk and health. Screening tests do NOT replace regular examinations and consultation with your personal physician.

In addition to the convenience of having these screenings delivered to the community, screening participants receive immediate color printouts with results, along with a digital DVD copy that includes carotid ultrasound image and vital measurements.  Glenwood has also made these life-saving services affordable by offering AngioScreen for the low cost of $49.95 per participant.

Saving Lives through Early Detection
85% of all strokes occur because of plaque buildup in the carotid artery – the main arteries in the neck that carry blood to the brain.  Preventive screenings provided with AngioScreen are specifically designed to recognize this buildup, enabling participants to seek medical attention before they are faced with a life-threatening emergency.

What our cardiovascular surgeon has to say…
“It’s very important that people take a closer look at their vascular health.  It’s the leading cause of death in America and is extremely prevalent in Louisiana.  Screenings are cost effective and can help prevent catastrophic problems like stroke, ruptured aneurisms and death,” said Harry Donias, MD., cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon on medical staff at Glenwood.
