When open heart surgery is required, Glenwood’s specialized heart team is ready, with a board certified cardiovascular surgeon and a highly experienced surgery staff, allowing patients and their families to remain in familiar surroundings, close to home before, during and after surgery. A designated heart suite in Glenwood’s Surgery Department ensures that the highest quality care is maintained.
Following open heart surgery, patients are closely monitored in Glenwood’s Cardiovascular Critical Care Unit. Once it is advisable, patients are transferred to the hospital’s Cardiovascular Telemetry Unit for the completion of their hospital stay.
Cardiovascular surgical treatments include:
- Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG), including the off-pump procedure
- Minimally invasive CABG, including endoscopic vein harvesting
- Valve repair, valve replacement

Glenwood’s Heart and Vascular thoracic surgery specializes in the treatment of diseases of the chest, including disorders of the esophagus, lungs, tuberculosis, chest wall deformities, cancer, myasthenia gravis, chest wall and mediastinum. Our program has special interest and expertise in tumors of the lung and esophagus.
