Operating Room of the Future – Now a Reality
West Monroe, Louisiana – Glenwood Regional Medical Center will host a Preview Event to introduce the newly constructed Hybrid OR Surgical Suite on Tuesday, June 2nd at 6:00pm in the Glenwood Medical Mall. Glenwood and IASIS Healthcare administrators will introduce the new technology to physicians, community leaders and other members of the medical community.
The Hybrid OR Surgical Suite is the most innovative approach to vascular and heart care available in our region. This unique operating room blends the technologies of advanced surgical approaches with crisp, high-tech imaging services. The Hybrid OR is a cardiovascular catheterization lab with immediate surgical capabilities, designed to enable cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons to work side by side in the same room… at the same time… in the best interest of their patients
It’s another example of Glenwood’s ongoing commitment to provide the most advanced treatment options and the highest quality healthcare services to patients…as well as making available these surgical capabilities to physicians.
The Hybrid OR suite was constructed as part of a $ 2.8 million dollar expansion of the surgery department. When IASIS Healthcare purchased Glenwood in 2007, the company pledged to invest $30 million in capital improvements, with a large portion earmarked for medical technology. The Hybrid OR and the addition of a 64-slice CT scanner, one of the most sophisticated imaging devices available, are both examples of the IASIS expansion commitment.
The Hybrid OR represents a higher level of quality care for cardiovascular patients. Previously, if a patient was undergoing cardiac catheterization or endovascular repair and it became necessary to perform an open surgical procedure, that patient would have been moved out of the Cath lab, through the hospital, and into an operating room. Now, instead of taking the patient to the OR, Glenwood is bringing the OR to the patient. The advantage is that procedures can now be performed in an existing sterile environment with zero time required to commence emergent surgery. The precious time saved could make a difference during crisis, and become a lifesaving measure for the patient.
The unique technology of the Hybrid OR will result in shorter, more precise medical procedures. Endovascular stent repair of aneurysms and opening vessel blockages, combined with any required surgical procedures can now be performed all in one room. The suite is also equipped with a post-imaging viewing room to enable surgeons to review their operation at its conclusion prior to sending the patient to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit.
For Glenwood patients, the Hybrid OR maximizes the benefits of minimally invasive vascular and heart procedures for faster recovery, shorter hospital stays and often times, at a reduced cost.
Nationally recognized for its heart program, Glenwood Regional Medical Center remains committed to providing its patients and their physicians with access to the most advanced medical breakthroughs and innovations in heart and vascular care.
